Invisalign is a customized plastic dental appliance used to straighten the teeth and jaw. It’s a popular alternative to traditional orthodontic treatments, such as metal braces, because the aligners are clear, less noticeable, and more comfortable to wear.

How Invisalign Treatment Works

Unlike traditional braces that are adhered to the teeth, Invisalign aligns the teeth using clear plastic aligner trays that can be easily removed from the mouth.

Invisalign is a treatment that typically requires a series of aligner trays to be created and used throughout the treatment plan. This way, the aligners can slowly shift your teeth into the correct position. It also allows your doctor to shift the teeth in a timed order that will achieve the best overall results.

Your Invisalign trays will be created specifically for you. At your first appointment, your dentist will use a scanner to take 3D digital scans of your teeth. Other x-rays and scans may also be needed so your doctor can view all of the components of your teeth, jaw, and any previous restorations.

Once the images are complete, your dentist will customize your treatment plan using technology to determine how your teeth will need to be aligned. Your aligners will be created and your doctor will check the fit.

Once you walk out of the clinic with your aligners on, you’ll simply need to wear them regularly. Your doctor will most likely book a follow-up appointment with you on a regular schedule. At these appointments, you’ll receive new aligners to further shift your teeth. Your treatment’s progress can also be tracked and adjusted by your doctor.

Invisalign Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Invisalign is commonly used to fix common orthodontic issues such as crooked teeth, crowded teeth, underbite, overbite, and crossbite. The cost of your Invisalign treatments will depend on the severity of the alignment issue. Your dentist will provide a quote for the expected cost of your treatment after assessing your teeth.

How Long Do Invisalign Treatments Take?

The length of your treatment varies with the amount of correction that is needed. Minor corrections can usually happen in under 12 months, while more severe problems will likely take longer. Your dentist will estimate the length of treatment and the cost of treatment at your initial consultation. It’s also important to note that the success of your Invisalign treatment depends on wearing your aligners consistently and changing the aligners at intervals recommended by your dentist.

How Long Do I Have to Wear Invisalign?

We recommend wearing your clear plastic aligners during the day and overnight. One of the benefits of Invisalign plastic aligners is that they are removable, so you can take them out while eating and consume any food you want. However, it’s essential that you wear the Invisalign aligners for at least 22 hours a day if you want to get the most out of your treatment and achieve the best results.

Is Invisalign Better Than Braces?

Invisalign technology provides a simpler option for patients with straightforward orthodontic problems. Because the Invisalign aligner trays are almost invisible in the mouth, many patients say they prefer them because they feel less self-conscious wearing them than if they wore metal braces. This is one of the reasons why many adults choose to start orthodontic treatments and finally achieve a straighter, more beautiful smile.

Are There Any Eating Restrictions with Invisalign?

The great thing about wearing clear plastic aligners rather than metal braces is that you can remove them while eating, so you can eat anything you want!

How Often Should I Change the Invisalign Trays?

The rate at which you’ll change your Invisalign trays will depend on your unique treatment. Your dentist will provide clear instructions on when to use your next set of trays.

How Should I Care for Invisalign Trays?

It’s best to clean your Invisalign trays first thing in the morning and before you go to bed at night by rinsing and brushing them with a soft bristle brush and a clear antibacterial soap. We recommend rinsing the aligners every time you remove them and soaking them in Invisalign cleaning crystals at least once a day to keep them smelling fresh and looking their best.
